THE UNSTOPPABLE EVENTREPRENEUR Podcast

Are You Proud of the Work You Displayed Online?

Are You Proud of the Work You Displayed Online?

“If you’re not proud of your work, then why are you showing your work?” May asks on this solo episode of The Unstoppable Eventrepreneur. Using real-life examples from a recent chat on social media, May notes how many business owners post pictures of events that they’re not particularly confident in, or which depict events for which they had to compromise their vision to suit the client. May understands the need for taking on less-than-ideal clients in order to make money; however, these are not the clients who should be featured as examples of your work. Posting less than stellar images means you will continue to attract less than stellar clients.

Instead, May says, when people see your pictures, they should be asking themselves how you put the event together and how long it took you to complete it. The better the pictures, the more those viewing it should be deterred from throwing the event themselves and eager to hire you instead. May shares a key question you should ask family and friends outside of the event business to gauge whether your online photos are portraying the image you wish to project. After this episode, you’ll be well on your way to establishing a digital presence that you will be proud of and that attracts your ideal clients!

Quotes

• “Show me your work and I will tell you whether your work is attracting champagne tastes via budget clients, or if you are getting your ideal clients.” (2:58 | May)

• “If you are already telling me these pictures are not the best pictures…If you’re not proud of your work, why are you showing your work?” (9:54 | May)

• “Just remember this: if you post pictures of an event that do not represent your brand because this is a low end client, or this client doesn’t want to follow your vision, they have their own vision, but it doesn’t align with your brand, when you post pictures like that, you’re going to attract more of those same people.” (11:29 | May)

• “If your work looks like a kindergartener can put it together, or a seven-year or 10-year-old who’s good at art and crafts can do it themselves, why should they hire you? These are the things that you have to think about when you put something on your digital platform.” (18:30 | May)

• “Every single time you work with a client that doesn’t align with your brand or with the perception that you’re trying to create about your work, it’s going to pull you back.” (20:35 | May)
